Railway Innovative Solutions, LLC introduces Tietan, a high-performance asphalt coating specifically engineered to shield wood railroad ties from premature degradation. This durable, polymer-modified asphalt protects against UV rays and water damage, extending the life of crossties and bridge ties.
Wood railroad ties are under constant attack from water and UV rays, causing them to degrade rapidly despite chemical preservatives. Replacing these ties has become unsustainable in both cost and effort. The railroad industry needs a new solution for tie longevity.
Applied hot to the top surface of the tie, Tietan seeps into existing cracks, checks and splits prior to cooling, forming a resilient, flexible membrane that bonds with solvent-based treatments like Creosote, Cu-Nap and DCOI. The result is an unbreakable barrier against damaging water and UV rays, significantly extending the service life of wood ties.
How Does it Work?
Engineered with expertise from the asphalt paving industry, this polymer-modified asphalt coating offers unmatched flexibility and adhesion. The Tietan membrane flexes with the natural expansion and contraction of wood, creating a waterproof shield similar to asphalt shingles that protect millions of homes nationwide.
Designed to bond to wood treated with traditional chemical preservatives, Tietan offers supplemental protection, preventing preservatives from being worn away by the elements, and sealing cracks that break through the preservative layer.
